Why are you speaking at the Women Automotive Summit?
Because I believe this is a great global platform to share experiences and learn from
others.
Why do you think such an event is important to the industry?
These events are so important for our industry, as we do tend to lag behind other sectors
in the area of diversity and inclusion. An event such as this really magnifies the
opportunities and demonstrates that this industry is one where women can thrive and
progress.
What will you be speaking about and contributing to the event?
I am sitting on one of the panels, where I will be sharing my experiences, the successes we
have had within JMG and giving advice as to how to overcome some of the barriers that
females face, equally I’m looking forward to networking and learning from others.
What is the most challenging issue currently affecting the automotive industry?
The most challenging issue over and above the significant changes that the industry is
facing, is that there is still a perception that this is not an industry for females, whilst in
my organisation JMG we are starting to see this change there are still huge barriers,
especially when thinking about attracting younger/early careers talent to join our industry.
What do think the future holds?
If everybody works together and consistently does what they say they’re going to do, I
think the future is incredibly exciting. The changes that the industry faces provide huge
opportunities for females, as a slightly different skill set is required, for example more
emotional intelligence as the need for relationship building and creating experiences
increases, the way in which technology is being deployed again provides great
opportunities for females with different skills. We must not forget our customers are
changing, there are far more females purchasing vehicles we need to be much more
representative of this within our retailers but also from a manufacturer point of view
when thinking of how the cars are designed etc.
