Why do we need to take a moment to truly recognise, celebrate and share Karin Rådström's recent appointment to CEO of Daimler Truck AG?

on September 06, 2024

Because despite Germany's progressive reputation on gender equality, it actually harbors one of the largest gender pay gaps in Europe and there is a sever lack of female leaders. Radstrom will in fact be only the second female CEO of a DAX 40 company, underlining the need for more gender diversity in top positions.

Within the automotive industry the statistics are even more stark. Even though women account for up to 85% of purchasing power, they hold globally ~20% of positions within the industry, reducing to less than 10% in executive positions.

Deloitte's Women in Automotive Industry Report highlighted 90% of women believe they are under-represented in leadership roles. A recent poll with the Women Automotive Network community supported this, revealing 49% still see the glass ceiling as a significant barrier to female leadership in the automotive industry.

It is therefore even more crucial when we read about promotions such as that we take the time to this achievement.

👏 Congratulations Karin! In the words of Serena Williams: "The success of every woman should be the inspiration to another."

While progress has been made, there is still a long journey ahead. Let's aspire to witness more female leaders like Karin, serving as inspirations for all of us as we strive for greater gender equality in leadership roles.
