Can you tell us a little about you, your background and how you got started in the automotive industry?

My journey into the automotive industry happened quite unexpectedly, sort of by chance. At the time, I was actually on the lookout for a new job in Marketing, which had always been my dream career. I was passionate about creating campaigns, connecting with audiences, and making an impact in that field. However, things took an unexpected turn when the American company I was working for suddenly closed the location I was based at.

Desperate to find a new opportunity, I applied for a position in the automotive industry, something I hadn’t really considered before. To my surprise, they asked if I’d be interested in a role in Quality Management instead. At first, I wasn’t sure, but I decided to give it a try. That decision turned out to be the start of an exciting new chapter in my career.

After a couple of years in Quality Management, I was fortunate enough to explore new horizons within Magna. I transitioned into roles in IT and Process Management, gaining a broader perspective of the business and expanding my skill set even further. Life has a funny way of leading you down paths you never imagined, and I’m grateful for every twist and turn along the way.

What is your current role, and what are your primary responsibilities within your organisation?

Currently, I serve as a Senior Expert for Business Process Intelligence & Optimization. I recently transitioned from IT to join the Transformation Office, which has been an exciting new chapter in my career. In my role, I work alongside a talented team to support all process management initiatives across the organization.

Our mission is to drive continuous improvement and unlock innovative ways to make our operations more efficient and forward-thinking. We’re passionate about transforming challenges into opportunities and helping the company stay at the forefront of industry advancements. Being part of this team allows me to contribute directly to shaping a more dynamic and resilient organization.

What obstacles have you faced in your career, and how did you overcome them?

One of the most significant obstacles I faced stemmed from my background. Coming from a family where no one had pursued higher education, there was a belief that, as a girl, certain limitations didn’t need to be challenged. I carried that mindset for a while, but eventually realized it wasn’t empowering or future-oriented.

That perspective changed when I secured a job at an American company. Seeing women in leadership positions who balanced responsibility and family life became incredibly inspiring role models for me. Later, when I entered the automotive industry, I encountered cultural expectations where many women were in support roles rather than strategic ones. I actively sought environments that aligned better with my ambitions and values.

These experiences taught me resilience, the importance of challenging limiting beliefs, and the value of perseverance. They motivated me to continue growing and pushing beyond perceived barriers.

Who has been a source of inspiration and support for you, and how did they empower you to reach your goals?

One of my greatest sources of inspiration has been both the environments I’ve worked in and my mum. Joining a multicultural American company exposed me to open-minded colleagues from around the world, reinforcing my belief in collaboration, diversity, and continuous learning.

My mum also played a defining role in shaping who I am. While she wasn’t initially enthusiastic about higher education, her discipline and strength taught me resilience and perseverance. Those lessons have stayed with me and continue to empower me during challenging times.

What innovative initiatives have you seen that are making strides towards gender equality in the automotive sector?

There are several initiatives making meaningful progress. Internally, our Women’s Exchange Programme provides mentoring opportunities, participation in internal and external branding initiatives, and access to regional and international events.

Externally, initiatives like the Women Automotive Network are incredibly inspiring. I also value platforms such as the Aurelia Academy and the PANDA Community, which contribute significantly to empowering women and fostering inclusive leadership across the industry.

How do you respond to those who say the automotive industry is still a “man’s world”?

I believe that perception still exists, which is exactly why I’m so committed to what I do. My focus isn’t about being for women or against men, but about fostering effective collaboration between everyone. When diverse talents and perspectives come together, the entire industry benefits and moves forward.

How do you unwind after a busy day?

I love to unwind by taking my daily 10,000 steps, it’s a non-negotiable for me. Fast walking outdoors, breathing in fresh air, and clearing my mind helps me re-energise. Honestly, it’s better than therapy and completely free.
